Light

• Intensity: Bright, indirect light delivering roughly 1,000–1,500 foot-candles.

• Method: East- or west-facing windows with sheer curtains, or shaded south exposures. Avoid direct midday sun to prevent leaf scorch .

Temperature & Humidity

• Day/Night: 70–85 °F (21–29 °C) by day and 60–65 °F (16–18 °C) by night.

• Humidity: 50–70 %. Maintain with humidity trays or a small humidifier; ensure gentle air movement to deter fungal issues .

Watering

• Frequency: Thoroughly drench the potting medium, then allow it to approach dryness before the next watering—generally once a week in homes.

• Technique: Water in the morning so foliage can dry; let excess drain away fully. Never let water collect in the crown to avoid rot .

Fertilization

• General: Use a balanced, slow‐release 10-10-10 fertilizer at label strength every 6–8 weeks, or apply a water‐soluble fertilizer at ¼-strength with each watering during active growth.

• Bloom Promotion: A bloom‐boosting formula (e.g. 10-30-20) can be applied shortly before and during spike initiation to encourage bud development .

Potting & Media

• Medium: A chunky mix of bark, coco chips, and charcoal ensures excellent aeration and drainage. Some growers incorporate perlite or sphagnum moss lightly to retain moisture without waterlogging

• Repotting: Every 1–1½ years, or when medium begins to degrade. Repot immediately if roots appear matted or the plant outgrows its container; if the existing spike is robust, you may leave it intact—otherwise, cutting back the spike helps channel energy into root and leaf renewal

• Staking: Support long spikes with soft ties to keep them upright and prevent breakage.

• Grooming: Remove spent flowers to tidy appearance and reduce pest/disease risk. Clean pots and tools between uses.

• Pest Watch: Inspect regularly for scale, mealybugs, or thrips—treat early with insecticidal soap or appropriate labeled products.
