It’s a cultivar of the Phalaenopsis genus—commonly called moth orchids—and is popular among orchid enthusiasts for its decorative appeal and relatively easy care compared to other orchid types.

Description of Phalaenopsis ‘Magic Art’:

Care and Handling Tips:

Light:

  • Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun as it can scorch the leaves.

  • East or west-facing windows are ideal; use sheer curtains for south-facing windows.

Temperature & Humidity:

  • Daytime: 70–80°F (21–27°C); Nighttime: 60–65°F (16–18°C).

  • Maintain 50–70% humidity. Use a humidity tray or room humidifier if necessary.

Watering:

  • Water once the potting medium is nearly dry, usually every 7–10 days.

  • Use room-temperature water; avoid letting water sit in the crown of the plant (which can cause rot).

  • Preferably water in the morning to allow leaves to dry.

Potting Medium & Repotting:

  • Use a well-draining orchid mix (bark, perlite, sphagnum moss).

  • Repot every 1–2 years, preferably after blooming, to refresh the medium and inspect roots.

Fertilizing:

  • Use a balanced orchid fertilizer (e.g., 20-20-20) diluted to half strength.

  • Fertilize every 2–3 weeks during active growth; reduce during winter.

Flower Spike Care:

  • After blooming, you can:

    1. Cut the spike halfway (just above a node) to encourage a possible side bloom.

    2. Or cut it entirely if it turns brown or if you want to give the plant a rest.

General Tips:

  • Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature drops.

  • Ensure good airflow around the plant to prevent mold or disease.

  • Watch for pests like mealybugs, scale, or spider mites.
